The Observer is a solo, text-focused journaling RPG played entirely through written logs.

You are stationed alone at a remote observation outpost. Each day, your instruments detect something unusual: signals, patterns, sounds, or events that cannot be fully explained. Your task is simple but unsettling: record what you observe, what you think it means, and how it changes you.

There are no correct answers. There is no combat. There is no win state.

The story emerges from your own writing and your reaction to the prompts.

How it works

  • Each in-game day generates a prompt tied to your chosen outpost
  • Prompts are designed to elicit written journal entries, not choices
  • Your responses shape the tone, interpretation, and outcome of the experience
  • Logs are saved locally on your device
  • You can export your journal as a pdf or JSON

Structure and scope

The Observer contains six self-contained scenarios, each tied to a different remote outpost.

Each scenario unfolds over a fixed sequence of 7, 14 or 30 in-game days, with one prompt signal per day. These signals escalate in intensity and meaning, building toward a final climax.

Across all 6 locations, the game includes 100+ unique writing prompts.

Outposts

Each outpost hints at a deeper truth:

  • Dark Forest Tower – a fog-bound watchtower where the surrounding ecosystem begins to behave incorrectly

  • Volcano Edge Observatory – a monitoring station overlooking a crater that bends heat, physics, and time

  • Abandoned Cliffside Bunker – a sea-facing installation listening to patterns rising from the ocean below

  • Arctic Horizon Cabin – an isolated research hut plagued by lights in the sky and impossible tracks in the snow

  • Exclusion Zone Spire – a decaying city structure where the building itself appears aware of your presence

  • Mountain Peak Relay Station – a high-altitude listening post receiving signals from something far beyond the clouds

Features

  • Solo-first design. No NPC dialogue. No branching trees.
  • Strong emphasis on atmosphere, isolation, and ambiguity
  • CRT-inspired interface with scanlines and glow
  • Daily-cycle structure (7, 14, or 30 days)
  • Comfort / Isolation tracking for tonal feedback
  • Local-only storage. No data leaves your device

This game is best played slowly, with headphones, and with time to write.
